Fab Find Friday: Kruger Visits Chanel Couture

With all of the red carpet hustle and bustle of awards show season, it is easy to forget that there are some other very star-studded fashion events currently going on. Haute Couture Fashion Week took place this past week in Paris, France hosting some outrageously divine couture collections from designer names like Atelier Versace, Jean Paul Gaultier, Iris Van Herpen and Armani Privé to name a few. But the show that has everyone talking, as it always does, was the Chanel Spring 2012 Haute Couture collection. Never one to disappoint, Karl Lagerfeld is known for making all of his collection debuts more than just a runway show- each collection of his comes with a full blown theme and grand ceremony to paint a complete picture of the designer’s vision.

For this Haute Couture season, Lagerfeld was inspired by air travel and stewardess uniforms, so naturally he transformed the Grand Palais in Paris into the interior of an airplane, with models walking down the aisles. If you aren’t too familiar with Couture Fashion Week, these collections are created as inspirations, not literal ready-to-wear clothing. The more outrageous and avant-garde, the better! These collections are created for the sake of fashion, not for the sake of every day style, unless maybe you were Lady Gaga. But some of these Chanel Haute Couture 2012 looks are actually pretty divine and definitely wearable! Check out some of our favorites here!

And the chic Chanel fashion didn’t stop there. Some of Karl’s favorite muses attended the show with the best seats in the house- the front row! Celebrities like Cameron Diaz, Vanessa Paradis, and Elizabeth Olsen were there to show support of the label that often dresses them for red carpets and other stylish soirees. Another star at the show is a well known Lagerfeld favorite, Diane Kruger. The German model turned actress always follows the fashion manner code by wearing a design of the label she is there to see. Just last year at the same Couture showing, Diane wore an elegant vintage Chanel embellished white gown that channeled old Hollywood glamour to a T. Picking up on the bronze accents along the bust and inside of the draped skirt, Diane wore a pair of chandelier earrings, very reminiscent of our Brass Tone Chandelier Earrings.

Kruger poses pretty at last year's Chanel Couture showing.

This year, however, Diane Kruger went for a look that felt a bit more on par with the Haute Couture collection that was presented. Her bell-shaped tweed dress from the pre-Fall 2012 collection was a bit more edgy than the gown she wore previously, and is very typically Chanel. Something about the big pearl buttons, sexy over-the-knee boots and chain strap Chanel bag makes for one seriously chic outfit.

You can get a pair of feather earrings just like Ms. Kruger’s from our T.R.U. Brand! The Pewter & Crystal Hoop Feather Earrings share the same size, silhouette and style as Diane’s and we can bet that $38 is a lot less than she paid for hers! What a fab find!

New Arrivals Are Here to Stay: Vintage Pearls

If you recall Kit’s post yesterday, fashion has definitely made a retro turn for good this year as we’ve seen designers like Prada, Marc Jacobs and Karl Lagerfeld re-visit the past with their own interpretations. And in just over a week from now, Jason Wu for Target will be hitting stores and online (Feb 5 – can’t wait!). Of course you can expect to see  splashes of modern retro played out in all his lovely designs.

Gone Retro: Jason Wu for Target hits stores on February 5!

Maybe it’s the Mad Men craze over the years that left designers longing for the past (a lot of credit goes to genius costume designer Janie Bryant) but who doesn’t love all the pastels and bright colors along with the beehive puff, the rockabilly bangs, pinup curls, and—we can’t forget about—the jewelry! The retro era calls for a sophisticated, confident, put-together look and 1928 has just the right recipe for that with our newest 1960s Belle De Jour pearl collection!

Fashion’s Nod to the Past: Retro Glamour

Normally, a new fashion season brings about fresh new colors, updated silhouettes and cutting edge designs. However, S/S 2012 collections showcased a whole lot of retro flair! Designers like Miuccia Prada, Marc Jacobs, and Karl Lagerfeld channeled decades past for their newest collections now in stores. From the 1950’s to the 60’s, this season is filled with the same feminine frills and girly glamour that style icons like Marilyn Monroe, Jackie O, and Brigitte Bardot made so special.

Since 1928 is a vintage inspired jewelry company, we love nothing more than a good throwback in style! We have already seen a rise in popularity of cameo jewelry and thanks to the hit TV series Mad Men, our 1960’s Vintage Inspired Gold Tone Pen Necklace is our #1 best selling product by a mile! If you haven’t quite decided if the retro look is for you, check out some of the newest S/S 2012 editorials, lookbooks, and ad campaigns that are featuring vintage glam in a whole new light!

Prada ALLFashions Nod to the Past: Retro GlamourIf one label really launched the vintage trend this season, the winner would have to be high end fashion house Prada. For the Spring 2012 campaign, some of fashion’s finest were photographed by legendary Steven Meisel in a “Gasoline Girls” themed shoot. The ornate designs are about as feminine as they come, playing up a woman’s shape and demure style. In the clothing, footwear and handbag ads, we can see a major nod to the 60’s and we like what we see!

Miu Miu ALLFashions Nod to the Past: Retro GlamourAs the new face of Miu Miu, actress Mia Wasikowska looks like a painted portrait in the newest advertisements for Prada’s younger label. The retro prints and cat eye makeup against the vivid yellow background are sure to get the label some attention and we just love the unique neon cameos. Quirky and kitschy but very true to the Italian Miu Miu aesthetic, this is about as radical as retro will get.

HM ALL 1024x342Fashions Nod to the Past: Retro GlamourIt’s not only the high end designer names bringing retro back. You can get in on a piece of the vintage action at one of our favorite stores, H&M! For their summer lookbook, the fast fashion retailer snagged Frida Gustavsson to model the pastel looks that are a mix of sportswear and elegant silhouettes. The unique use of color blocking is what gives this collection the ultimate modern update. Frida looks chic as can be with that perfectly undone twist up in her hair and dark red pout.

Bazaar ALLFashions Nod to the Past: Retro GlamourWhile not for a specific brand, some of our favorite retro styling we’ve seen comes from the pages of Harper’s Bazaar UK in their January issue. The fashion story, “Valley of the Dolls”, stars top model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley styled in ensembles that look like they came straight out of the 60’s! The English bombshell looks like a doll from a vintage dollhouse, all dressed up for the simple reason of being dressed up! The luscious hair, the soft makeup, the setting- it’s all so wonderfully retro!

Which nod to vintage styling do you like best? If you think you’ll take a swing at this trend, be sure to check out our new Belle de Jour collection of vintage shapes and plenty of pearls! Fashion really has proved that what was once old is new again!

Tuesday’s Must-Have: Emily Osment’s TRU Pick

emily osment wearing 1928 jewelry

In honor of the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards (happening this upcoming Sunday!), we had a few celebrities stop by our SAG award suite and Emily Osment happened to be one of them! You may have seen her in Spy Kids 2, Spy Kids 3D, Hanna Montana or most recently Cyber Bully.

Emily ended up loving our  T.R.U. Indonesian Arctic Tusk Pendant Necklace, which is a perfect fit for the indie pop rock singer/songwriter that she is. We love how the necklace looks on her with that lovely bright periwinkle frock and stack of bangles.

Inspired by Indonesian designs, the pendant necklace is made in high quality with a matte gold slab tusk, Swarovski crystal beads and semi precious stones that hang from a geometric casting on a vintage link chain. And let me tell you, this is one of the most popular styles in the office and our brick and mortar store! ;) .

Fab Find Friday: All That Glitters at the Golden Globes

It’s time for the Golden Globes red carpet recap! We took a look at the fashion this past Wednesday, noticing the color trend of the moment with all of the lovely ladies of Hollywood showing up in beautiful blush gowns! You would think with such a soft, neutral color there would be more accessorizing! But for the most part, these champagne clad celebrities let their dresses do the talking and kept the jewels either minimal or opted for classic diamonds. So here’s our rundown of our favorite part of red carpet fashion: the jewelry!

From Chopard to Fred Leighton, these stylish celebs pulled out all the stops when it came to high-fashion glamour! And luckily enough for them, they don’t all have to purchase their bling. But if you want the same Hollywood style for your next formal evening out, you don’t have to spend more than you do on your dress! We found all of our styles that matched the stars on the Golden Globes red carpet and have them all right here for you. How fab!

Emma Stone Fab FindsFab Find Friday: All That Glitters at the Golden GlobesLet’s begin with one of our consistent style stars, Emma Stone. The class-act red carpet dresser attended the Globes in a custom two-tone Lanvin gown that was every bit as fresh and fashionable as we would expect from Emma. Something about the gown’s capped sleeves and that heavy eagle belt make it so unique, we just can’t get enough! Emma wore matching deep red Lorraine Schwartz stud earrings. For the same shape and shade, try out 1928’s Red Cranberry Marquise Cut Jewel Earrings set in a dark hematite tone finish.

Jessica Chastain Fab FindsFab Find Friday: All That Glitters at the Golden GlobesEmma’s co-star from the movie The Help, Jessica Chastain channeled vintage chic for her ensemble. Jessica wore a Givenchy Haute Couture number accented in pearls from the high collar down to the floor. While her hair styling could have used some help, we do love that we can see her big, shiny pearl earrings! For a pair like this, that will go with so many different evening wear outfits for years to come, get a pair of our Majesty’s Crystal Pearl Button Earrings.

Madonna Fab FindsFab Find Friday: All That Glitters at the Golden GlobesFrom Jessica’s soft, vintage number to outright rock ‘n’ roll, Madonna graced the red carpet in a very dramatic Reem Acra dress with a crystal encrusted bodice and embroidered dark green full skirt. True to her personal style, the mega-star accessorized her look with a black, fingerless leather glove and a gorgeous cross necklace. Straight from our Vatican Library Collection, we think Madonna would even rock this Silver Tone Filigree Crystal Center Cross Pendant Necklace and still look fab!

Lea Michele Fab FindsFab Find Friday: All That Glitters at the Golden GlobesAnother favorite look from the red carpet fashion show this past Sunday was Lea Michele! Wearing a silver embellished Marchesa cutout gown, Lea didn’t necessarily fill out the dress as well as some more mature ladies could have, but she still managed to look super high-fashion! My favorite part of her couture look was that bright green cocktail ring! Since green jewelry always makes a statement, pick up the Indian Oval Green Adventurine Ring from our T.R.U. brand!

Green Earrings Fab FindFab Find Friday: All That Glitters at the Golden GlobesEver since Angelina Jolie wore emerald earrings during last year’s awards season, everyone wants in on a pop of green! This year at the Globes, Julianna Margulies went for the same look with a lighter jade green. Her Naeem Khan dress was pretty, but it didn’t hold a candle to (or match with) her Lorraine Schwartz green drops. 1928’s Sweet Tarts Retro Green Teardrop Earrings are not only a perfect match, but are some of our newest earrings on the website! Or check out the Blue Agate & Adventurine Circle Drop Earrings for the same silhouette in a slightly brighter tone. Either pair you’ll love to wear!

Elle Bracelets Fab FindFab Find Friday: All That Glitters at the Golden Globes

From top to bottom, styles 61872, 63453, 63488, and 60768.

Bringing some of the color of 2012 to the table was Elle Macpherson who stacked some serious bracelets in a tangerine tango and bright pink color palette. The supermodel wore a very interesting Zac Posen gown that has people confused on whether they like it or not. Well all dress arguments aside, we think her bold bangles are banging! We love the bright blend of colors and crystals. We’ve paired together some 1928 bracelets to create a stack just like Elle’s! Wear them all or pick and choose your favorites!

Mila Kunis Fab FindsFab Find Friday: All That Glitters at the Golden GlobesGoing for an all classic look, Mila Kunis donned an elegant black Dior gown and Cartier earrings. Simple, yes, but also very sultry! Dress up your own little black dress like Mila with our Vintage Swarovski Crystal Tassel Drop Earrings! They may not be Cartier, but they sure are affordable!

Kristen Wiig Fab FindsFab Find Friday: All That Glitters at the Golden GlobesWe showed you Kristen Wiig’s nude Bill Blass gown in our post on Wednesday, but we have to revisit this look! Kristen looks divine in a minimalist dress like this and knew just how to make it fit her personal style. The comedian didn’t give that plunging neckline a chance to look overtly sexy; instead she made that low cut the perfect canvas to show off her stunning Fred Leighton necklace. Between the pop of purple, the chain and the pendant shape, Kristen’s necklace reminds us so much of the L’aura Pourpre Tanzanite Dreams Necklace from our Antiquities Couture brand.

Nicole Richie Fab FindsFab Find Friday: All That Glitters at the Golden GlobesYou know that at 1928 we love ourselves a good dose of retro glamour, and that is exactly what Nicole Richie delivered! The socialite turned style icon wore a liquid silver Julien Macdonald dress that looked extra fab with the 60’s style bouffant she wore in her hair. And as soon as we saw Nicole’s earrings, we were reminded of our Jardine Dangle Medallion Earrings. Although cast in a darker metal and sans pearls, we love this vintage chandelier silhouette that makes any look a bit more sophisticated.

Frida Pinto Fab FindsFab Find Friday: All That Glitters at the Golden GlobesAnd last, but certainly not least, is the star who wore a 144.96 carat yellow diamond statement necklace! Freida Pinto was dressed to impress in a simple yet elegant blue Prada ball gown and outrageous Chopard necklace. We love a good statement necklace, and while this one is a knockout, we can’t ever realistically even imagine wearing it! But just because its lacking the carats doesn’t mean you still can’t wear a wow factor. Freida’s Prada dress, or any strapless gown for that matter, would look dazzling with a statement piece like our Mixed Metal Gold Chain Bib Necklace.

So there you have our first of many red carpet recaps of awards show season! We can’t wait to see what some of our favorite fashionistas will bring to the table over the next few months! Hopefully lots of style, lots of shocking moments and a whole lot of jewelry we can match to 1928 fab finds. Have a fabulous Friday!
