“New Moon” Spurs Interest in the Jewelry World

November 24th, 2009 § 0

Did you get a chance to see the vampire-inspired film “New Moon” yet?! It’s been a hit not only with the younger crowd but the mature crowd as well! Vampire fashion is nothing new to us, last April we teamed up with HBO to have a variety of 1928 Jewelry pieces featured on Season 2 of the hit vampire show “True Blood”. There’s something about vintage jewelry that makes a vampire look as chic as ever! Below, are the 1928 pieces some of the cast wore in Season 2.

Currently, a new set of movies has hit the big screens, The Twilight Series, introducing their newest movie just this past weekend, “New Moon”. 1928 is inspired by jewelry from the set of “New Moon” and would love to hear from you! Let us know about a 1928 piece that you believe would have been a hit if placed in the movie. Style #’s or photos are welcomed! Comment below or send them to Our Facebook fan page. Check out our current pick for “New Moon” collection of the week, Shades of Night. Below are some of my favorite pieces from this extraordinary collection. Enjoy!

Now I just know that all you retro-fashionistas out there are simply chomping at the bit to get your Joan fix (I’m sorry, do you prefer a different fashion icon? Who? Why?) as interest in the new season picks up, so do sales of our pen necklace. I spoke with Anita in Customer Service who informs me that people are buying the 1960’s pen necklace to wear to their  season premier costume parties. Who are these fabulous people and why haven’t they invited me?

It’s still a little embarrassing to admit that we discovered the show due to it’s fans (of which we now proudly count ourselves, of course) who were calling us asking, “Where can I get Joan’s pen necklace?” These er, mad fans actually scared us at first, but we recovered.

We even threw a Joan Holloway lookalike contest, remember?

Ah, the good old days.

Will you be Mad Men-partying on Sunday?

Clean House & 1928 Jewelry: What Niecy Nash & Trish Suhr are Wearing

June 15th, 2009 § 1

A few months ago, Sonia White joined our company as Creative Marketing Director. Sonia, came from the television show, Clean House. Almost all the women who work at 1928 are in love with Clean House (and every other show on the Style Network). About the time  Sonia started working at 1928, we’d just launched our statement necklaces collection.

When Sonia made it it possible for us to have the opportunity to accessorize the Clean House girls for the upcoming season, we all screamed “Niecy needs 1928 bling! Trish too!” And off to blinging she went.

Our fashion lesson from this season of Clean House: EVERY WOMAN NEEDS COPPER & TOPAZ.

Here’s our polyvore set dedicated to Niecy’s impeccable personal style.

Streamy Beauty Deserves Major Awards

March 30th, 2009 § 2

This has been a whirl wind week for 1928 Jewelry, first the Girls In Tech Fashion & Beauty Summit and then the Streamy Awards.

What Are The Streamy Awards?

The Streamy Awards are like the Oscars or Emmys of the Internet. The Streamys honored excellence in Web Television across 24 creative categories, from acting and directing, to editing and special effects.

Web 2.0 effects how all brands engage their customers and including retail. Because of this, 1928 Jewelry was the official jewelry sponsor of broadcast personalities Shira Lazar (CBS/Fox/ABC), Laurie Percival (LALAWag), Anaiis Flox (OmgOmgOmfg), Michelle De Forest (NextNewNetworks) & Amanda Coolong (TechZulu). Female nominees also received statement necklaces from the 1928 Boutique collection.

The convergence of traditional & online news media is no different than the convergence of these two elements in Fashion & Retail. 1928 Jewelry is committed to being at the forefront this marriage. And making sure the iconic, pioneering women shine.

The Great Mad Men Pen Necklace Mystery

October 10th, 2008 § 3

Thanks to Anita in customer service for bringing this to my attention…

Apparently Joan Holloway, that delicious, sexpot redhead on Mad Men who is the 60′ equivalent of “a cross between a mother and waitress,” wears a gold tone vintage style pen necklace in nearly every epsiode.

Fans are desperately seeking a reproduction of this item. Anita is fielding both calls and emails asking, “Is this necklace by 1928 Jewelry?” Hmm, great question…

The story: What We Know About the Actual Prop

Found while shopping at an open air market in Pasadena California, by the mysterious “Janie” the necklace is pure vintage.

But is it 1928 vintage inspired, an older 1928 design or somebody else’s?

Pics of Joan Holloway’s gold tone pen necklace are leading to “maddening” answers from our design team here, “Well, it looks like some of our older stuff .” to “Maybe from back in the early days.” to “Can you make it bigger can we see the item closely” and “Can you get me a photo of the clasp?”

The verdict is: Yes, it is one of our pieces from when we first opened in the late 1960s. Sadly, the only place you can find the original vintage gold pen necklace is either eBay or your local antique shop. But, the good news is, we offer a slighly more modern replica on 1928.com! And, it’s only $20 bucks…
