Guess what? It’s FAB FIND FRIDAY here at 1928! What’s that, you might ask? It’s where we scour the pages of Vogue, InStyle, Elle and all the other fashion bibles and find stylish, affordable pieces for the modern day recessionista. If you can’t spend $5,000 on diamond chandelier earrings but don’t want to scrimp on style, then this is surely for you!

While going through the pages of this month’s W Magazine, I noticed a beautiful multi-color brooch in one of their spreads (see above). It’s a piece by Spanish jewelry designer, Luz Camino and is exclusively sold at Bergdorf Goodman in New York. This brooch is all things fabulous. Looking at the 18K yellow gold, the vibrant sparkling crystals and the $2,800 price tag, the cost is no joke. It immediately hit me that we have a similar piece here at 1928, the Marcasite Flower Brooch. If you ask me, our brooch is quite the dead ringer minus the colors and more importantly, the price. Both brooches come in beautiful vintage gold tones but our brooch will only set you back $100 dollars. Ultimately you save $2,700 which makes this the deal of the year! Aside from the savings, brooches are a hot jewelry trend right now. Long gone are the days where brooches were just found in your grandmother’s jewelry box.
Michelle Obama, without a doubt, has been one of the best dressed first ladies we’ve had. When she appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno back in October, she was rocking this amazing round floral brooch she had placed right in the middle of her cardigan. Her look was chic and polished and the brooch added sparkle to her outfit. Brooches can be used to jazz up your simple LBD (little black dress) or even put them in your hair. Yup, you read that right–your hair! Recently we’ve seen a trend on the red carpet where Hollywood actresses have decided to ditch the statement necklaces and place a simple but equally fabulous brooch in their hair. Take for example, Hilary Swank. Her retro glam curlers are pulled back by using this floral diamond Chopard brooch. If curls don’t work for you, how about pulling your hair back into a neat bun and placing the brooch to the side. You’ll add an edgy flair to a simple classic look.
If you decide to accessorize with a brooch, skip the necklace and go with simple diamond studs so you’re not overly jeweled. Remember what Coco Chanel advised us about over accessorizing:
“Before you leave the house, look at yourself and take one thing off.”
We hope you enjoyed this week’s FAB FIND. Till next week my lovely readers!
