Jewelry Making Process

I took a tour of the 1928 jewelry plant in Burbank, California and wanted to let you in on the cool process of how our jewelry gets made from start to finish! It’s a long process that requires a lot of detail work, but the end result makes it worthwhile! Here’s a summary.

Step 1: A drawing is created by talented in-house designers.

Step 2: The models are hand crafted and detailed by hand.

Step 3: Casting process. Mold gets created into the desired shape. Castings are hand buffed.

Step 4: Jewelry gets pre-cleaned and plated

Step 5: Jewelry gets “antiqued” with a brush. This is a main part of what gives the jewelry a vintage look. (E.g., burnished copper, burnished brass.)

Step 6: Hand-enameling and stone-setting.

Step 7: After the jewelry goes through a baking process to set the elements in place and the necessary modifications are made, jewelry finally gets tagged, carded and bagged.

I think I would love working there! I’ve purchased vintage jewelry and 1928 jewelry for years, very cool to see these photos. Does 1928 Jewelry get there designs from old catalogs etc?
