Cinco de Mayo!

Being located in Southern California, means that we’re lucky to be surrounded by a rich and vibrant mix of cultures. Cinco de Mayo is a great celebration of Mexican heritage and pride that continues to grow in popularity throughout the US. As someone who is drawn to ALL things bright and colorful, this is one celebration that really appeals to me!

5demayoblvdCinco de Mayo! A couple of years ago, I had the chance to be in Puebla, Mexico (where the celebration finds its significance and roots*) in early May. I have to tell you that you haven’t seen a Parade until you’ve seen the Cinco de Mayo Parade in Puebla! There’s such a great mix of people and pageantry everywhere you look that it’s impossible not to be inspired. Seriously though, there is something for everyone!

If you’re the kind of girl that likes any excuse to throw a good party, this is definitely a good time to do it! More and more people celebrate Cinco de Mayo every year, whether they have any Mexican ties or not! Summer Style: Keeping It Cool with Hair Accessories

When it’s over 90° at the beginning of May, you know that summer has officially arrived in SoCal. And with more of the sweltering heat we’ll be facing in the days ahead, it’s time to keep some cooling tips handy!

On a scorching hot, sticky day, the last thing you want is even a piece of hair touching your skin, but at the same time you want to keep your locks lose and pretty. Bring out all your pins and barrettes because this is the perfect time to make use all your hair accessories!

1). Clip up rather than sideways:

2). Double it up: Use two barrettes instead of one

3). Leave your hair half down by clipping a part of your hair on the side, letting the barrette jut out:

Remember to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of H₂O! Make it even more refreshing by adding mint and strawberries, cucumbers, or a bunch of different citrus fruits sliced into iced water.

Can you believe it’s already May??! Time may have flown by, but most can agree May is the beginning of that time of year most of us look forward to all winter long! The weather is warming up, those April showers have started blooming beautiful May flowers and this lovely spring month is also represented by one of the most beloved gemstones in history: The Emerald!

Historically emerald gemstones have always represented luxury and were sought out by every major civilization for their immense worth within the trading market. Emeralds were also highly favored by the Greeks and the Romans who viewed the gemstone as a symbol of eternal love and well known that the world’s first diva, Cleopatra, was a lover of emeralds, as well as the great philosopher Aristotle, who would often refer to emeralds in his writing.

This gemstone has also become quite the favorite when it comes to accessories! Many a celebrity has been spotted donning some serious green power on the red carpet, and in the public eye! My favorite was the powerhouse earrings that Beyonce donned at the Presidential Inauguration!

Thor 2: The Dark World Let’s all take a minute to get properly excited about the fact that last week Marvel released the official trailer for “Thor 2: The Dark World”! Have you seen it? If not, take a minute to watch it now! [You can find it conveniently located at the bottom of this post!]

I have to say that I’m totally a sucker when it comes to comic book themed movies. As a self-professed comic geek, there’s just something about seeing the larger-than-life stories come to life! And, who doesn’t love a little bit of a love story while saving the world? There’s no doubt that for me Thor 2 will be a must-see when it comes out in November of this year.

Seeing the trailer gets me excited about and thinking about the whole collection of Thor themed jewelry we have to choose from through JewelM!
