Our 10 Best Sellers in 2011!

I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday season and New Year’s! Now that the holiday and 2011 is over, we have a whole new year to look forward to—whether that means a new job, a new haircut, a new wardrobe, or a whole new you. One of things I love doing in the new year is looking back in the year to reminisce about all the things I’ve done (and didn’t do), make goals (though it might not always pan out) and enjoy the possibilities of what lies ahead. Here at 1928, we’ve had a good year: we launched our new T.R.U. line, partnered up with Marvel Comics (be on the lookout), we were featured on ShopSmart Mag, had a few other lovely press mentions, and best of all, we had more than 2,000 fans join our Facebook page!

That being said, let’s take a look at a some of our best sellers of 2011! Hands down, our number one best seller is and most likely will always be the 1960s Vintage Inspired Pen Necklace that all of us have by now, so I didn’t include that on the list icon smileOur 10 Best Sellers in 2011! .

Fab Find Friday: Ashley Benson’s (Pretty Little Liars) Pick!

Fashion is a blend of functionality and fantasy and is, above all, transformative. We all feel more glamorous when we put on an evening gown, just as we feel more at home when we have our favorite sweatshirt on. We also have different things that inspire our fashion choices. For some of us, we want looks straight off the runway or that mimic the outfits from the magazines. For others it may be a fashion blogger or even a best friend whose outfits are always so killer, you want to dress like that too! And sometimes, we are inspired by characters in movies and TV shows who are always dressed to impress.

When screenwriters are creating a character they have to think about everything, especially the kind of clothes they will be wearing. In a world where looks are so important (even if we say they don’t matter) when it comes to on-screen characters, we ARE allowed to judge a book by its cover, or in this case a character by the clothes he/she is wearing. Costumers and stylists work hard to create looks that are 100% fit for that character’s style. So much of Annie Hall was defined by her menswear accessories and adorable styling. We feared Meryl Streep’s character in the Devil Wears Prada because we were intimidated by her outrageously expensive (and fabulous) power suits. And I’m sure we are all jealous of the upper East-side socialites from Gossip Girl, one of my favorite fashion references!

The characters from Pretty Little Liars are defined by their personal styles

But one of my new favorite group of character’s that have impeccable style is the group of girls on ABC Family’s hit series Pretty Little Liars. The four main characters, Aria, Hanna, Emily and Spencer each have their own unique sense of style that is still approachable and realistic. Instead of high fashion labels or over the top trends, these characters have a very fashionable girl next door quality to their looks. Stylist and costume designer for the show, Mandi Lane, has perfected each of these character’s style so that you know the minute you see them, whether you have watched the show or not, what they are going to be like.

Coming from such a stylish show, we were thrilled to see actress Ashley Benson, who plays Hanna on PLL, stop by the 1928 suite for a Think Pink celebration for October. Also known for her roles in Supernatural, and 13 Going On 30, Ashley came to support breast cancer awareness month and shop some 1928 Jewelry styles. Her pick? Our Blue Freesia Pendant Cuff Bracelet, a style we make in house right here in California! This bracelet is a great style to rock with denim, but we also love how it picks up that pop of blue in Ashley’s sweater. So no matter how you wear this piece, you’ll be looking great for a fabulous price!

Fab Find Friday: Vanessa Hudgens Does Boho Best!

No matter the season, no matter the weather- if there is one style that never seems to go out of style its boho chic! Sure it has seen its more popular seasons and trending pieces have had their moment in the spotlight, but taking on a laid-back, casual yet refined bohemian look will never lead you astray. Think of it as being perfectly undone; effortlessly styled; predictable yet unexpected; retro and fashion forward all at the same time- boho chic is one big contradiction and that is what makes it last from season to season.

It should come as no surprise that boho-chic’s reigning queen is Nicole Richie. From the moment she first came into her reality TV spotlight to now having a clothing line and accessories collection of her own, her style has retained its effortlessly chic spirit that so many of us have coveted and copied. If anyone is proof that you can still be totally trendy with a look that has been around for years, it’s Ms. Richie.

And while Nicole may be the boho-queen, the princess and strong competitor for best bohemian look is definitely Vanessa Hudgens! Graduating from her sweet Disney star persona, this young Hollywood hipster constantly rocks a look that sits somewhere between edgy and relaxed. And while her outfit may not always make our best dressed list (although a good 80% of the time it does), she sure does stick to her own personal style, unaffected by high-end labels and must-have seasonal trends. Vanessa is a bold, daring and fearless fashionista with a strong bohemian spirit.

Even with her unexpected short hair cut (which we love!) Vanessa still manages to channel her inner flower-child spirit in this maxi dress from T-bags that she wore to the premiere of Iris, the new Cirque du Soleil show in Hollywood. The scalloped print is a nice way to switch it up from an animal print while still staying funky. And to accentuate the plunging neckline on the dress, Vanessa wore a large round medallion pendant which we think is quite chic in the silver!

You can rock Hudgens’ style with our Ariel’s Treasure Turquoise Drop Round Locket that has the same length and pendant size as the necklace she is wearing. The unique pocket watch style opening to the locket almost gives it a retro vibe, so for all of you bohemian queens, this can be your perfect accessory to jump into the world of retro which will be big this upcoming season. Have a fabulous Friday!

Fab Find Friday: Bright Hot Pants (How the Celebs Do It)

A few weeks ago, Annie blogged about the latest and greatest trend in pants- bright, bold colors! Denim, trousers, or even pajama inspired silk pants are all coming to us from the runways and the retail stores in vibrant hues that are just perfect for summer! Since color-blocking has also seen its moment of glory this S/S season, I think colored pants are a fabulous base to build that look on. But if you aren’t daring enough to pair your cobalt blue pants with a goldenrod or fuchsia top, I think white is your best option. It will keep your look summery and really let those pants pop!

Not only have colored pants been popular on the runway, but we have also seen our fair share of celebrities rocking this trend. Especially when it comes to casual chic looks, celebrities have been caught in J. Brand jeans in many different shades. And it seems that a styling trend is emerging within this clothing trend. Celebs have been seen rocking colored jeans and accessorizing with brown or neutral colored jewelry. It creates a fun, bohemian look that is perfectly casual.

Here we have some style showdowns comparing celebrities who have been caught wearing the same hot-hued hot-pants. And personally, I prefer those that went for that boho-chic look I just mentioned instead of the over-stylized or under-accessorized outfits. Let’s take a look at how each star below put together her outfit and check out the fab finds from 1928 that will give you that same look for less!

Kim Kardashian vs. Hilary Duff:

colored denim blueFab Find Friday: Bright Hot Pants (How the Celebs Do It)Here both Kim K. and Ms. Duff are rocking the same bright blue, blue jeans! As someone who has my own pair of these cobalt blue pants, they have probably been the ONLY jeans I’ve put on this summer! How much more fun are they than your usual blue jeans, right? Since they are so vibrant and edgy, Kim decided to play that style up. She went for a leather jacket and studded booties, but I think the look is a little too much, even in the dead of winter. I personally think Hilary did justice to these J. Brand jeans by pairing them with a simple white tank, gold sandals and brown beaded bohemian jewelry. The length of her necklace adds all the embellishment a top could ever need to keep up with the bright blue of the pants. Here are our picks to get Hilary’s chic style:

Megan Fox vs. Ellen Pompeo:

colored denim whiteFab Find Friday: Bright Hot Pants (How the Celebs Do It)Now white may not be a bright color, but when it comes to jeans, don’t we all love that short window of time in the summer when we can rock these? White jeans are generally very slimming and always light weight, so they are the perfect summer pant. Clean, tailored and simple they can also be styled many different ways, one of my favorite being nautical. However, Megan Fox proved that the navy and white combo can also swing a bit more of a casual boho style! Sophisticated and modern, her neutral tone outfit consists of three colors and very little embellishment. In fact her single strand of brown beads stands out even more against the navy and white. Compared to Ellen Pompeo who rocked the same color palette, Megan looks chic while Ellen looks plain and frumpy. Her chambray shirt would look so much better with white shorts, but with the white jeans it just looks weighed down. Be a fox like Megan and check out our favorite beaded brown necklaces:

Victoria Justice vs. Dakota Fanning:

colored denim tealFab Find Friday: Bright Hot Pants (How the Celebs Do It)

And now for the battle of the teen style sensations! Both Victoria Justice and Dakota Fanning have impeccable style especially for being only 18 and 17 years old respectfully. I rarely find fault in anything Dakota has on, especially on the red carpet, but I think when it comes to wearing these teal denim pants, Ms. Justice has her beat. While Fanning has on an awesome shirt and even more desirable bag (isn’t it just stunning!?) Victoria Justice looks fresh and flirty. The color of the pants itself is so youthful to the point of almost being juvenile, but with Victoria’s lace top and nude heels, she brings her whole outfit to a very mature and fashion forward level. And here is the ONE, single case where I make the point that sometimes less is more as far as jewelry. Had she gone overboard with matching earrings or even layered necklaces, she would have slipped into that teenage look, but her single gold bangle around her forearm makes her look runway ready!

Do you like this trend of putting all the pizzazz in your pants? Do you own a pair of brightly colored trousers or jeans? If so, tell us what kind of jewelry you wear with it or what looks you put together! Have a fabulous Friday!

Fab Find Friday: Rocking Retro Hollywood Glamour!

If there’s one thing we can’t get enough of here at 1928, it is vintage inspired, retro glamour! The beginning years of “Tinseltown” were an era all their own. Actresses such as Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, and Sophia Loren created an iconic beauty that will never go out of style. Trends may come and go but you can always count on “old Hollywood glamour” to be fashionable.

Sophia Loren

This week, The Academy of Motion Pictures celebrated one of these classic beauties with a gala in honor of Sophia Loren. The woman of the hour was looking just as glamorous and stunning as ever at the age of 76 and showed us what classic beauty is all about. But it was another celebrity in attendance Wednesday night that caught my eye. Eva Mendes was there and not only paid honor to Ms. Loren but also to retro fashion in a bright green Oscar de la Renta dress. Her look was so fun and fresh and appropriate, I just loved it from head to toe!

Mendes completed her look with a simple black clutch and matching heels and accented the green perfectly with some gold jewelry. Her earrings, by Kara Ackerman, reminded me a lot of our Mother of Pearl Vintage Hoop Earrings. Only difference is Eva Mendes’ pair will cost you about $300 and 1928’s pair are only $45! They feature genuine Mother of Pearl and are also a favored style by Debby Ryan from the Disney Channel! Talk about your fab find!
