Last week was busy for the women at 1928, we worked hard to open a new 1928 Boutique outlet store. Did you know that we had local outlet stores in the Los Angeles area?
As a matter of fact, we don’t have one store, we have two! Both jewelry outlets are located in Burbank and easily accessible from Los Angeles, Pasadena, Simi Valley or Santa Monica. For those wanting to find deals, I don’t even think Orange County’s too far a drive to find amazing pieces and one-of-a-kind pieces.
The stores carries all the 1928 lines, including 1928 boutique, discontinued 2028 and Antiquities Couture. And for you vintage loving divas, if you look closely, you’ll find original samples (never produced) and some pieces that are 10, 15 or even 20 years old! Talk about retro cool.
The Magnolia St. Store is open Monday through Saturday from 10AM to 5PM and the Empire St. Store is open Tuesday through Saturday 10AM to 5PM. Stop by and discover amazing earrings, necklaces, bracelets, brooches and other gifts.

1928′s been known for vintage style jewelry for over 40 years, in the past year, there’s been a major revival if Art Deco and Art Nouveau style jewelry. But what exactly is Art Deco? Where did it come from? What inspired Art Deco? Well, our friends at La Petite Blog have created the ultimate guide to understanding Art Deco.
The 20th century’s most refined design movement is sleek, smart and eternally stylish- especially now. Fall in love with Everything ART DECO!
1910 – 1939

What is Deco?
1 How it started. As a backlash against the lavish, viney ornamentation of art nouveau. Instead of adding decoration for its ow sake, deco (from the early 1900 to the thirties) fused patterns, often geometric, onto functional elements.
2 How to spot it. Many items resemble industrial machines, with bold shapes, rounded lines and shiny finishes. Signature colors include black, chocolate, turquoise, peach and cream. Surfaces are either sleek and lacquered or sensual to the touch.
3 How to get it. Buy an accent table in chrome or brass. Stock your home bar- better still, a cocktail cart (how cute!) – with gear from the twenties and thirties. Get a mirrored vanity table (on my wish list), and cover it with Lalique perfume bottles.

Mother’s Day is just around the corner, May 10th! It got me thinking about what I would get the special women in my life. While I was fortunate to grow up with an amazing woman who I had the privilege to call “mom”; not everyone grew up with their mother. So we’ve been creating some amazing things around here: We wanted to give you a preview and here your thoughts:
1. Do you or don’t you like it?
2. How would you wear it?
3. What would you pay?
Ready? set? SHARE!
This bracelet is really cool. It’s has ivory white enameled flowers with crystal centers. The polished gold tone bracelet is more of a cuff style, opening and closing on a hinge. It’s about 1.5″ wide.

Gold Costume Bracelet
This beauty has me quivering in my boots! The necklace is very modern with an industrial, slight gothic vibe. I love the mixed metals – the antiqued gold and black. Very similar to chain mail no? The collar is about 2 5/8″ wide.

When we first made the decision to redesign 1928.com (new site coming in October 2008), I reached out to a good friend of mine Lori Dicker. Lori is an amazing woman (who just happens to own Karma Media Labs, a social media think tank in Los Angeles) to discuss the possibility of her being involved in the marketing component of the job. She was working at home the day I dropped off our RFP. But she didn’t answer the door, Sherman did.

Bull Dog Bracelet
Sherman stole my heart. LA is a land of people who love their pets (I’m convinced more than the rest of country – look at the California weather). Everywhere I go, there are Shih Tzus, Golden Retrievers, Labs, Paris Hilton arm candy dogs and most recently – Bull Dogs.
Sherman reminded me of an idea the design team mocked up just to “see” how it would look. They were these kinda retro, definitely blingy stretch bracelets with the pictures of dogs, cats & horses in them. Of course you know I have a horse bracelet. So I went back to the drawing board and said, let’s try it. And thus, we developed some cute, fun bracelets featuring your favorite and frisky feline friends. My favorite of course: The Sherman Bull Dog Bracelet.
To tie it all together, I brought it back to a local charity we support:
Every month, 1928.com donates 5% of our gross profits to L.I.F.E. Animal Rescue. For all the items in the Pet Lovers collection we will donate 10%. L.I.F.E. is a non-profit, no kill rescue in the San Fernando valley that finds lifelong homes for dogs and cats.

It’s spring and we need color!
Our toes crave pedicures so they can be set on display in sandals, our skin craves vibrant floral smells to lift our mood while at work and our wrists crave bright shiny metal objects that bling and jingle.

This has been a whirl wind week for 1928 Jewelry, first the Girls In Tech Fashion & Beauty Summit and then the Streamy Awards.
What Are The Streamy Awards?
The Streamy Awards are like the Oscars or Emmys of the Internet. The Streamys honored excellence in Web Television across 24 creative categories, from acting and directing, to editing and special effects.
Web 2.0 effects how all brands engage their customers and including retail. Because of this, 1928 Jewelry was the official jewelry sponsor of broadcast personalities Shira Lazar (CBS/Fox/ABC), Laurie Percival (LALAWag), Anaiis Flox (OmgOmgOmfg), Michelle De Forest (NextNewNetworks) & Amanda Coolong (TechZulu). Female nominees also received statement necklaces from the 1928 Boutique collection.
The convergence of traditional & online news media is no different than the convergence of these two elements in Fashion & Retail. 1928 Jewelry is committed to being at the forefront this marriage. And making sure the iconic, pioneering women shine.

Kate Winslet wasn’t the only one who shined at the 2009 Golden Globe Awards. Best actress nominee Christina Applegate combined Sophia Loren style with Joan Holloway hair. But what caught our eye, aside from the pale yellow satin Roberto Cavelli dress, were was her vintage-inspired statement necklace. Designed by Lorrain Schwartz, the 50-carat diamond flower and leaf necklace necklace added organic glam to her 1960s look.
But here’s the dilemma – not all of us can afford vintage celebrity bling. As I drooled over this outfit and dress, I realized that 1928 Jewelry has a comparable, much more affordable piece (and matching earrings) that would almost rival the fine jewelry version.
So here’s how to achieve Christina’s vintage style without hurting your pocket book: 2028 Bellissimo Giardino Collection.
PSST – Look closely, it comes in two tones – Antique Black (Hematite) and Polished Brass! It’s also hand-enameled with real Swarovski crystals.

- Blue & Polished Brass Flower Necklace – $125.00 (featured above)
- Blue & Polished Brass Petite Earrings – $25.00 (featured above)
- Blue & Polished Brass Cuff Bracelet – $48.00
