Fab Find Friday: Grammy Fashion Makes a Splash!

Pretty much smack dab in the middle of awards season is the most dramatic red carpet of them all- the Grammy Awards! A night of celebrating music, the Grammys bring out the most daring, unique and sometimes even crazy red carpet looks we’ve ever seen! The music industry is filled with artists who put on grand concerts and produce over the top music videos for a living, so you can be sure their personal style will be far from classic or boring. This is place to be wild and “put on a show” if you will.

I personally like it when the movers and shakers of the industry take advantage of this more casual red carpet affair. What would normally be a one way ticket to the worst dressed list can sometimes be the most talked about look of the night, and not necessarily in a bad way. The more creative and outrageous, the better (sometimes). Let’s take a look at some of the more provocative/gossip worthy ensembles for the night.

best dressedFab Find Friday: Grammy Fashion Makes a Splash!

Clockwise from top left corner: Nicki Minaj came ready for her controversial performance later that night; Fergie wore a gorgeous lace gown, but made the worst choice possible in what she wore underneath; Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz added fashion forward details to classic looks; the queen of crazy Grammys fashion, Lady Gaga wears a custom created look by Donatella Versace herself!

However, like all awards show red carpets, each celebrity there shines in their own personal style, which means not everyone in attendance will be wearing crazy, avant-garde designs! Some came dressed to impress and wowed in sequins, slits and of course sparkling jewelry! Here then is our red carpet recap of some of the lovely ladies at the Grammys accessorizing in pieces just like some we have at 1928!

K ROWLANDFab Find Friday: Grammy Fashion Makes a Splash! Kelly Rowland looked nothing short of lovely in her Alberta Ferretti dress complete with silver floral accents and  sheer details around the neckline. The singer toned down her usual sex appeal with this choice of dress but kept the dramatic bling! I think her choice of a bold cocktail ring and chandelier earrings were perfect for the dress. Check out 1928′s Triangular Chandelier Earrings for a similar pair that we can promise will accessorize any evening wear look just beautifully. And our Black and Silver Art Deco Filigree Ring is definitely a favorite!

K BECKINSALEFab Find Friday: Grammy Fashion Makes a Splash! Another celeb to rock some stylish chandelier earrings was actress Kate Beckinsale. The brunette beauty walked the Grammys red carpet in a creme Zuhair Murad silk mini dress complete with a black velvet bow over one shoulder. We think Kate’s look is cute, chic and extra classy for the Grammys. Accessorizing with black Salvatore Ferregamo pumps and black earrings to match the bow, Kate Beckinsale looks great! Get a pair of earrings like hers- the Vintage Divine Black Teardrop Earrings will be worn for years to come, yet have a modern, trendy look.

E SPALDINGFab Find Friday: Grammy Fashion Makes a Splash! On the opposite end of the spectrum from Kate Beckinsale’s classic ensemble was jazz singer Esperanza Spalding. As the winner of last year’s Grammy for Best New Artist, the young jazz musician stayed true to her unique sense of style and attended this year’s awards in a dip-dyed gown. The fade of the gown from silver/grey to a deep red is a color palette we haven’t seen very often and it brings together the red, silver and bronze accessories she is wearing just wonderfully. We especially like the addition of the red arm bangle Esperanza wore close to her elbow. 1928 has a bracelet you can wear just like that- the Desert Skies Red Borealis Wrap Bracelet!

K PERRYFab Find Friday: Grammy Fashion Makes a Splash! Newly single and newly blue-haired Katy Perry was also in attendance as a nominee of multiple awards. Not ever one to play it safe, Katy Perry matched her gown to her hair color by wearing a powder blue Elie Saab Haute Couture gown fresh off the runway! With such a dramatic dress and head-to-toe monochromatic look, we like that Ms. Perry added simple crystal dangle earrings, and nothing more. Although we could also see her wearing our Sparkle Silver Cluster Drop Earrings for a slightly edgier pair.

C UNDERWOOD1Fab Find Friday: Grammy Fashion Makes a Splash! There was no shortage of sequins at the Grammy’s especially thanks to Carrie Underwood! The chic country star looked radiant in her Gomez-Gracia long sleeved white gown covered in silver sequins. With such a modest neckline, hemline and the sleeves, we love the cutout back detail to show off Carrie’s killer figure. Her swept back hair was a great ‘do to show off her silver earrings that were the perfect complement to this glitzy, glamorous look. Our Doile Crescent Teardrop Filigree Earrings will give you the same pretty look as Carrie, but won’t cost you a pretty price.

T SWIFTFab Find Friday: Grammy Fashion Makes a Splash! If there is one other celebrity who can pull off sparkle as well as Carrie Underwood, it has to be Taylor Swift! Sequins are Taylor’s “thing” and we think she looks all grown up and gorgeous in this Zuhair Murad Couture gown. We love the gold and nude color combo and her toned down makeup, hair and jewelry. Keeping it sleek and simple and letting the gown make the statement, Taylor added delicate drop earrings to make sure her outfit wasn’t too plain (once again- we just blogged about her wonderful use of accessories last week!)

RIHANNA FULLFab Find Friday: Grammy Fashion Makes a Splash! Rihanna sure surprised us on the red carpet but not because she had a show-stopping, double-take gown on. Instead, Rihanna strayed from her usual daring fashions to sport a simple yet seriously sultry custom made black gown. Rihanna collaborated with Giorgio Armani himself on this design complete with plunging neckline, open back and thigh-high slit to show off all of the singer’s best assets. With her new blonde hair, Rihanna added some rock ‘n’ roll gold accessories that fit the dress to a T. Get Rihanna’s look with our Boutique Prominence Gold Cuff Bracelet and for a truly unique piece like her snake bangle, the 1960′s Vintage Gold Snake Bracelet. This item is currently not available, but check back soon!

So fierce, fashionable, fabulous or just plain fun, the 2012 Grammy’s left us plenty of fashion hits and misses to talk about until we hit the next awards show- the Oscars! Have a fab Friday!

Fab Find Friday: Accessories DO Make a Difference!

We here at 1928 Jewelry firmly believe that your accessories can make or break an outfit! Accessories are the finishing touch, the “cherry on top” if you will, of your outfit. One of my biggest pet peeves is to see a perfectly adorable dress with NO jewelry! Even if the dress speaks for itself, there is a dainty pair of earrings out there that would have made your eyes sparkle just a little more. Or if you are going with a minimal pant suit, why NOT take the chance to add feminine flair with an all metal statement necklace. It doesn’t have to be outside of your comfort zone or too flashy, but adding bits of jewelry show that you care about your overall look.

And accessories cover much more than just jewelry! Hats, tights, bags, belts and shoes- they ALL make a difference to the garments you put on, whether they change the shape of the dress you have on, add an additional color, or even just make the outfit come together for a different vibe. Case in point: Taylor Swift and Keke Palmer both wore the same Ted Baker dress, but in totally different ways. The stylish singer wore the unique chandelier printed dress with black tights, booties and some simple-chic jewelry. The actress styled the dress with only a nude pair of heels, nothing else. Who do you think rocks this dress better?

taylor vs kekeFab Find Friday: Accessories DO Make a Difference! If you voted Taylor, we couldn’t agree more! The print of the dress definitely makes it more wintry and casual, so the tights were a perfect addition! Instead of wearing her hair against the busy chandelier pattern, like Keke, Taylor pulled her tresses back so as not to compete. And even though her jewelry is delicate it still manages to pull the whole ensemble together. Keke is such a pretty girl, and we love her shoes, we just wish she had a pair of chandelier earrings to match those chandeliers on the dress!

The options with accessories are always endless. Depending on the colors or features you want to highlight, there are always different roads to take. That is what styling is truly all about. When you see a celebrity walking down the red carpet, just know that there was a very talented stylist that made every decision from hair and makeup to the jewelry to the shoes on her feet, sometimes even the star’s toe nail polish!

We’ve picked out not only one fab find but six that match the chic little drops Ms. Swift wore with her Ted Baker dress. All 1928 styles have the same simple drop silhouette, but the colors and details change it up. Had she worn the Porcelain Rose Pearl Drop Earrings with soft pink and pearl accents, her look would have been much more vintage inspired, and she probably should ditch the tights. But with the Morado Jewel Purple Drop Earrings, Taylor’s look would have been more colorful and edgy!

Which earrings would you pair with Taylor Swifts outfit? And do you agree that accessories can make or break an outfit? Have a fabulous Friday!

Fab Find Friday: SAG Awards Style

Another awards show, another red carpet rundown of all of the fabulous fashion and jewelry! The Screen Actors Guild Awards took place this past Sunday at the Shrine Auditorium in Hollywood with a very prestigious and stylish guest list. Some of Hollywood’s biggest names attended the SAG Awards as nominees and presenters and gave us yet another wonderful fashion show on the red carpet. From modern, sexy look like Lea Michele’s Versace number to more colorful and couture gowns like Julie Bowen’s dress from Temperley London the stars were looking very chic!

As one of the more formal awards shows of the season, we weren’t surprised at all that some of the celebrities in attendance channeled one of the biggest trends of the moment- old Hollywood glamour! Even in their fresh off the runway dresses, the trending look was definitely more retro inspired than anything else. And since 1928 Jewelry is a vintage inspired jewelry company, we found plenty of pieces the celebs wore that match styles we have. Let’s take a look at all the fashion and the fab finds so you can get the same great style for a much more reasonable price!

MICHELLE WILLIAMSFab Find Friday: SAG Awards StyleThe lady in red of the evening was none other than the lovely Michelle Williams who wore a red Valentino gown with asymmetrical hemline and lace sleeves. We think this shade of red looks ravishing on the classic beauty! Her chunky Fred Leighton gold chain bracelet was a perfect modern touch to the sweet dress. You can get a bracelet like Michelle’s on 1928.com! Our Gold Tangle Multi Chain Bracelet is actually on sale!

KELLY OSBOURNEFab Find Friday: SAG Awards StyleAnother celeb who chose the perfect color to wear was Ms. Kelly Osbourne! As one of the hosts of E!’s Fashion Police, Kelly made sure to impress in a white Badgley Mischka gown that showed off her ever slimming figure. Everything from her makeup to adorable hairdo was a great choice for the SAG Awards. To mix it up a little and add that typical Osbourne edge, Kelly wore bronze drop earrings that look very similar to our Bronze Lantern Double Beaded Earrings. Metallic earrings can match with any evening wear look, even if the color is not a perfect match, so these are a great style to pick up for only $16.

ANGELINA JOLIEFab Find Friday: SAG Awards StyleFrom white to black, Angelina Jolie once again wore her preferred red carpet color and looked amazing! In a sheen black draped gown by one of her favorite designers, Jenny Packham, Angelina kept her dress minimal and accessorized with big, bold vintage House of Lavande earrings. Our Brass Circle Hoop Earrings have the same silhouette that will spice up any LBD of yours.

EMMA STONEFab Find Friday: SAG Awards Style

Another actress to dazzle us in black was Emma Stone- and let’s face it, when does this girl NOT make our best dressed list? This time around, Emma looked picture perfect in a head-to-toe Alexander McQueen ensemble including a black lace tea length dress, adorable matching shoes and a signature AMQ knuckle duster clutch. Her look is so perfectly on trend and fits her age and personal style perfectly- retro glamour with a bit of edge. Emma wore gold & diamond earrings by Paloma Picasso for Tiffany & Co. earrings, but we have a similar pair that won’t cost you a fortune. Our Vintage Metropolis Wing Night Fly Earrings are a 1928 favorite!

JESSICA CHASTAIN 1024x435Fab Find Friday: SAG Awards StyleEmma wasn’t the only actress from The Help (which swept at the SAG Awards!) to make a fashion splash. Jessica Chastain looked stunning in her custom Calvin Klein Collection dress in a rich royal blue. We always love a good, minimalist CK gown, but the vivid blue color really makes a difference! Jessica accessorized with sapphire earrings from none other than jewelry designer extraordinaire,  Harry Winston. Well we may not use real sapphires, but our Sapphire and Silver Tone Square Drop Earrings are almost an identical match!

OCTAVIA SPENCERFab Find Friday: SAG Awards StyleThe Help‘s Octavia Spencer chose to wear the same designer that brought her luck at the Golden Globes. Her Tadashi Shoji grey embellished gown was incredibly flattering and once again, Octavia took home the award for Best Supporting Actress. Looks like Tadashi Shoji just might be her lucky charm! We also love her choice of earrings; they match just perfectly with the floral beading on her gown! 1928′s Mademoiselle Sparkle Amethyst Vine Earrings have a similar silhouette and color palette and are a great choice for evening wear.

BERENICE BEJO1Fab Find Friday: SAG Awards StyleBerenice Bejo came dressed to impress in a beaded Ralph Lauren Collection champagne gown. Nominated alongside Octavia Spencer, the actress from silent film The Artist added a pop of color to her ensemble with an amethyst pendant by Chopard. We think purple is going to be a big color to accessorize in this year, so to get a necklace that will make a statement like Berenice’s, check out our Morado Shield Large Amethyst Pendant Necklace.

SOFIA VERGARA 1024x474Fab Find Friday: SAG Awards StyleAlso wearing some purple jewels was the always divine looking Sofia Vergara. Sofia chose purple Lorraine Schwartz jewels as a complementary jewel tone to her raspberry curve hugging gown- a custom design by Marchesa. Not one to necessarily surprise us on the red carpet, we have to say Sofia sticks to her personal style and always manages to look like a dream.

DIANNA AGRON 755x1024Fab Find Friday: SAG Awards StyleGlee‘s Dianna Agron looked lovely in her fuchsia pink Carolina Herrera gown. The starlet wasn’t quite as daring as Ms. Vergara was with her pink dress and opted for simple silver and diamond jewels by Fred Leighton. We love what Dianna did with her hair! The shabby chic fishtail braid adds a youthful edge to the elegant ensemble that only she would be able to get away with. Even her delicate bracelet and drop earrings fit the overall look just perfectly. For timeless pieces like hers, 1928 has Victorian Inspired Teardrop Earrings and a Lux Cut Crystal Beaded Bracelet you can wear with all your favorite cocktail dresses.

Next up on the awards season calender are the Grammy’s and the highly anticipated Academy Awards. So stay tuned to Jewelry Gal and we’ll continue to post some fab finds for you to get as glamorous as the stars!

Have a fabulous Friday!

Fab Find Friday: Kruger Visits Chanel Couture

With all of the red carpet hustle and bustle of awards show season, it is easy to forget that there are some other very star-studded fashion events currently going on. Haute Couture Fashion Week took place this past week in Paris, France hosting some outrageously divine couture collections from designer names like Atelier Versace, Jean Paul Gaultier, Iris Van Herpen and Armani Privé to name a few. But the show that has everyone talking, as it always does, was the Chanel Spring 2012 Haute Couture collection. Never one to disappoint, Karl Lagerfeld is known for making all of his collection debuts more than just a runway show- each collection of his comes with a full blown theme and grand ceremony to paint a complete picture of the designer’s vision.

For this Haute Couture season, Lagerfeld was inspired by air travel and stewardess uniforms, so naturally he transformed the Grand Palais in Paris into the interior of an airplane, with models walking down the aisles. If you aren’t too familiar with Couture Fashion Week, these collections are created as inspirations, not literal ready-to-wear clothing. The more outrageous and avant-garde, the better! These collections are created for the sake of fashion, not for the sake of every day style, unless maybe you were Lady Gaga. But some of these Chanel Haute Couture 2012 looks are actually pretty divine and definitely wearable! Check out some of our favorites here!

Chanel Haute CoutureFab Find Friday: Kruger Visits Chanel Couture

And the chic Chanel fashion didn’t stop there. Some of Karl’s favorite muses attended the show with the best seats in the house- the front row! Celebrities like Cameron Diaz, Vanessa Paradis, and Elizabeth Olsen were there to show support of the label that often dresses them for red carpets and other stylish soirees. Another star at the show is a well known Lagerfeld favorite, Diane Kruger. The German model turned actress always follows the fashion manner code by wearing a design of the label she is there to see. Just last year at the same Couture showing, Diane wore an elegant vintage Chanel embellished white gown that channeled old Hollywood glamour to a T. Picking up on the bronze accents along the bust and inside of the draped skirt, Diane wore a pair of chandelier earrings, very reminiscent of our Brass Tone Chandelier Earrings.

Chanel and ChandeliersFab Find Friday: Kruger Visits Chanel Couture

Kruger poses pretty at last year's Chanel Couture showing.

This year, however, Diane Kruger went for a look that felt a bit more on par with the Haute Couture collection that was presented. Her bell-shaped tweed dress from the pre-Fall 2012 collection was a bit more edgy than the gown she wore previously, and is very typically Chanel. Something about the big pearl buttons, sexy over-the-knee boots and chain strap Chanel bag makes for one seriously chic outfit.

Diane Kruger ChanelFab Find Friday: Kruger Visits Chanel CoutureAnd instead of opting for matching pearl earrings or none at all considering that high collar, Diane wore a pair of silver feather drop earrings to bring out yet another element. You can get a pair of feather earrings just like Ms. Kruger’s from our T.R.U. Brand! The Pewter & Crystal Hoop Feather Earrings share the same size, silhouette and style as Diane’s and we can bet that $38 is a lot less than she paid for hers! What a fab find!

Fab Find Friday: All That Glitters at the Golden Globes

It’s time for the Golden Globes red carpet recap! We took a look at the fashion this past Wednesday, noticing the color trend of the moment with all of the lovely ladies of Hollywood showing up in beautiful blush gowns! You would think with such a soft, neutral color there would be more accessorizing! But for the most part, these champagne clad celebrities let their dresses do the talking and kept the jewels either minimal or opted for classic diamonds. So here’s our rundown of our favorite part of red carpet fashion: the jewelry!

From Chopard to Fred Leighton, these stylish celebs pulled out all the stops when it came to high-fashion glamour! And luckily enough for them, they don’t all have to purchase their bling. But if you want the same Hollywood style for your next formal evening out, you don’t have to spend more than you do on your dress! We found all of our styles that matched the stars on the Golden Globes red carpet and have them all right here for you. How fab!

Emma Stone Fab FindsFab Find Friday: All That Glitters at the Golden GlobesLet’s begin with one of our consistent style stars, Emma Stone. The class-act red carpet dresser attended the Globes in a custom two-tone Lanvin gown that was every bit as fresh and fashionable as we would expect from Emma. Something about the gown’s capped sleeves and that heavy eagle belt make it so unique, we just can’t get enough! Emma wore matching deep red Lorraine Schwartz stud earrings. For the same shape and shade, try out 1928’s Red Cranberry Marquise Cut Jewel Earrings set in a dark hematite tone finish.

Jessica Chastain Fab FindsFab Find Friday: All That Glitters at the Golden GlobesEmma’s co-star from the movie The Help, Jessica Chastain channeled vintage chic for her ensemble. Jessica wore a Givenchy Haute Couture number accented in pearls from the high collar down to the floor. While her hair styling could have used some help, we do love that we can see her big, shiny pearl earrings! For a pair like this, that will go with so many different evening wear outfits for years to come, get a pair of our Majesty’s Crystal Pearl Button Earrings.

Madonna Fab FindsFab Find Friday: All That Glitters at the Golden GlobesFrom Jessica’s soft, vintage number to outright rock ‘n’ roll, Madonna graced the red carpet in a very dramatic Reem Acra dress with a crystal encrusted bodice and embroidered dark green full skirt. True to her personal style, the mega-star accessorized her look with a black, fingerless leather glove and a gorgeous cross necklace. Straight from our Vatican Library Collection, we think Madonna would even rock this Silver Tone Filigree Crystal Center Cross Pendant Necklace and still look fab!

Lea Michele Fab FindsFab Find Friday: All That Glitters at the Golden GlobesAnother favorite look from the red carpet fashion show this past Sunday was Lea Michele! Wearing a silver embellished Marchesa cutout gown, Lea didn’t necessarily fill out the dress as well as some more mature ladies could have, but she still managed to look super high-fashion! My favorite part of her couture look was that bright green cocktail ring! Since green jewelry always makes a statement, pick up the Indian Oval Green Adventurine Ring from our T.R.U. brand!

Green Earrings Fab FindFab Find Friday: All That Glitters at the Golden GlobesEver since Angelina Jolie wore emerald earrings during last year’s awards season, everyone wants in on a pop of green! This year at the Globes, Julianna Margulies went for the same look with a lighter jade green. Her Naeem Khan dress was pretty, but it didn’t hold a candle to (or match with) her Lorraine Schwartz green drops. 1928’s Sweet Tarts Retro Green Teardrop Earrings are not only a perfect match, but are some of our newest earrings on the website! Or check out the Blue Agate & Adventurine Circle Drop Earrings for the same silhouette in a slightly brighter tone. Either pair you’ll love to wear!

Elle Bracelets Fab FindFab Find Friday: All That Glitters at the Golden Globes

From top to bottom, styles 61872, 63453, 63488, and 60768.

Bringing some of the color of 2012 to the table was Elle Macpherson who stacked some serious bracelets in a tangerine tango and bright pink color palette. The supermodel wore a very interesting Zac Posen gown that has people confused on whether they like it or not. Well all dress arguments aside, we think her bold bangles are banging! We love the bright blend of colors and crystals. We’ve paired together some 1928 bracelets to create a stack just like Elle’s! Wear them all or pick and choose your favorites!

Mila Kunis Fab FindsFab Find Friday: All That Glitters at the Golden GlobesGoing for an all classic look, Mila Kunis donned an elegant black Dior gown and Cartier earrings. Simple, yes, but also very sultry! Dress up your own little black dress like Mila with our Vintage Swarovski Crystal Tassel Drop Earrings! They may not be Cartier, but they sure are affordable!

Kristen Wiig Fab FindsFab Find Friday: All That Glitters at the Golden GlobesWe showed you Kristen Wiig’s nude Bill Blass gown in our post on Wednesday, but we have to revisit this look! Kristen looks divine in a minimalist dress like this and knew just how to make it fit her personal style. The comedian didn’t give that plunging neckline a chance to look overtly sexy; instead she made that low cut the perfect canvas to show off her stunning Fred Leighton necklace. Between the pop of purple, the chain and the pendant shape, Kristen’s necklace reminds us so much of the L’aura Pourpre Tanzanite Dreams Necklace from our Antiquities Couture brand.

Nicole Richie Fab FindsFab Find Friday: All That Glitters at the Golden GlobesYou know that at 1928 we love ourselves a good dose of retro glamour, and that is exactly what Nicole Richie delivered! The socialite turned style icon wore a liquid silver Julien Macdonald dress that looked extra fab with the 60’s style bouffant she wore in her hair. And as soon as we saw Nicole’s earrings, we were reminded of our Jardine Dangle Medallion Earrings. Although cast in a darker metal and sans pearls, we love this vintage chandelier silhouette that makes any look a bit more sophisticated.

Frida Pinto Fab FindsFab Find Friday: All That Glitters at the Golden GlobesAnd last, but certainly not least, is the star who wore a 144.96 carat yellow diamond statement necklace! Freida Pinto was dressed to impress in a simple yet elegant blue Prada ball gown and outrageous Chopard necklace. We love a good statement necklace, and while this one is a knockout, we can’t ever realistically even imagine wearing it! But just because its lacking the carats doesn’t mean you still can’t wear a wow factor. Freida’s Prada dress, or any strapless gown for that matter, would look dazzling with a statement piece like our Mixed Metal Gold Chain Bib Necklace.

So there you have our first of many red carpet recaps of awards show season! We can’t wait to see what some of our favorite fashionistas will bring to the table over the next few months! Hopefully lots of style, lots of shocking moments and a whole lot of jewelry we can match to 1928 fab finds. Have a fabulous Friday!
