Did you get a chance to see the vampire-inspired film “New Moon” yet?! It’s been a hit not only with the younger crowd but the mature crowd as well! Vampire fashion is nothing new to us, last April we teamed up with HBO to have a variety of 1928 Jewelry pieces featured on Season 2 of the hit vampire show “True Blood”. There’s something about vintage jewelry that makes a vampire look as chic as ever! Below, are the 1928 pieces some of the cast wore in Season 2.
Currently, a new set of movies has hit the big screens, The Twilight Series, introducing their newest movie just this past weekend, “New Moon”. 1928 is inspired by jewelry from the set of “New Moon” and would love to hear from you! Let us know about a 1928 piece that you believe would have been a hit if placed in the movie. Style #’s or photos are welcomed! Comment below or send them to Our Facebook fan page. Check out our current pick for “New Moon” collection of the week, Shades of Night. Below are some of my favorite pieces from this extraordinary collection. Enjoy!
Last week was busy for the women at 1928, we worked hard to open a new 1928 Boutique outlet store. Did you know that we had local outlet stores in the Los Angeles area?
As a matter of fact, we don’t have one store, we have two! Both jewelry outlets are located in Burbank and easily accessible from Los Angeles, Pasadena, Simi Valley or Santa Monica. For those wanting to find deals, I don’t even think Orange County’s too far a drive to find amazing pieces and one-of-a-kind pieces.
The stores carries all the 1928 lines, including 1928 boutique, discontinued 2028 and Antiquities Couture. And for you vintage loving divas, if you look closely, you’ll find original samples (never produced) and some pieces that are 10, 15 or even 20 years old! Talk about retro cool.
The Magnolia St. Store is open Monday through Saturday from 10AM to 5PM and the Empire St. Store is open Tuesday through Saturday 10AM to 5PM. Stop by and discover amazing earrings, necklaces, bracelets, brooches and other gifts.
For over 40 years, 1928 Jewelry, has created stunning reproductions of vintage costume jewelry. Some of our designs are born from the creative minds or our design team but many collections have been inspired from ornate, sometimes over the top costume jewelry pieces created in the mid-2oth century.
When researching a piece I found at the Fairfax Flea Market this past weekend, I stumbled upon Sherri Duncan’s website.
I’d never heard of Ms. Duncan before a serious, in-depth Google search. But thanks to good old Google – low and behold, she was there! The costume jewelry expert of my dreams! This woman had serious taste in costume jewelry, from Hobe to Dior, Miriam Haskell to Chanel, she had it! It was honestly the Haskell piece that made me love her.
Duncan has written an amazing coffee table book about her costume jewelry collection called Jewels of Passion. The hardcover, glossy page book features 175 pages of beautiful vintage to antique costume jewelry collections. For anyone who loves costume, or just loves jewelry in general, it’s a must own. And yes, you can get it through Amazon, what iconic fashion book isn’t?
To learn more about Sherri, you can visit her jewelry site, she even has a few of the pieces for sale!
Philanthropic efforts and causes connect our entire company. Everyone at 1928, from our CEO to our customer service department actively participates in community efforts. In fact, 10% of our web sales are donated every month to non-profit groups in California.
When we see other brands and retailers campaigning to make the world we live in a better place, we’re compelled to write about it and show our support.
For their 125th anniversary, BVLGARI created an anniversary ring to benefit Save the Children. The sterling silver ring is a tribute to Sotirio Bulgari (the company’s founder) and features Save the Children’s logo engraved on the inside. Each ring will sell for $290.00, of which $60.00 will be donated to the Rewrite the Future campaign.
To launch the project Bulgari also created a special designated web site featuring one-of-a-kind photographs, taken by well-known Italian photographer Fabrizio Ferri, of a number of the project’s celebrity supporters, who include: Willem Dafoe, Ellen DeGeneres, Portia De Rossi, Benicio Del Toro, Sally Field, Fiorello, Andy Garcia, Valeria Golino, Terrance Howard, Hugh Jackman, January Jones, Jason Lewis, Debra Messing, Julianne Moore, Gabriele Muccino, Kimberly Peirce, Isabella Rossellini, Ben Stiller and Sting.

About BVLGARI’s fundraising initiative for Save the Children’s Rewrite the Future Campaign
With the Rewrite the Future campaign, BVLGARI is committed to providing quality education to 8 million children living in conflict-affected areas by the end of 2010. Considerable progress has already been made by rebuilding schools, supplying much needed school supplies, and protecting children from abuse and exploitation — thus paving the way for a durable change in almost 6 million children’s lives. Bulgari’s ultimate goal is to raise €10 million for Save the Children by the end of 2009, of which €1 million will be donated in advance to kick off the initiative. In addition to the silver ring, Bulgari will auction a collection of one-of-a-kind jewelry and limited edition time pieces that have a total value of €3 million at Christie’s in New York on December 8, 2009.
One the most notable parts of this campaign is that The Bulgari Group will not profit from the initiatives connected with this project, it all goes to charity.
A few months ago, Sonia White joined our company as Creative Marketing Director. Sonia, came from the television show, Clean House. Almost all the women who work at 1928 are in love with Clean House (and every other show on the Style Network). About the time Sonia started working at 1928, we’d just launched our statement necklaces collection.
When Sonia made it it possible for us to have the opportunity to accessorize the Clean House girls for the upcoming season, we all screamed “Niecy needs 1928 bling! Trish too!” And off to blinging she went.
Our fashion lesson from this season of Clean House: EVERY WOMAN NEEDS COPPER & TOPAZ.
Here’s our polyvore set dedicated to Niecy’s impeccable personal style.
Everyone around the office is spinning in excitement; on Monday our fall brooches were featured Women’s Wear Daily! A favorite dragonfly brooch of ours (available in enameled Topaz & Copper in November, for the public – though I seem to have mysteriously gotten mine already…) is featured. Stay tuned for their release, until then you can see all of 1928 Jewelry’s brooches here.
We (like almost every other fashionista with a blog) have become obsessed with an amazing little site called Polyvore.com. Polyvore is an online fashion community that allows users to create outfits using its social sharing software. Users can visit all their favorite brands’ websites, clip product photos and create various works of art.
In the next few months, 1928 Jewelry is partnering with Polyvore to bring Polyvore users a more integrated accessorizing experience, a few exciting contests and a secret event. We’ve already integrated a feed of all our jewelry and accessories into Polyvore to make stylizing your perfect outfit easier.
Pearls are popping up on everything from heels and bags to cardigan sweaters, so the sky’s the limit on how to reinvent this classic accoutrement. The simplest way to freshen up a strand of pearls is to layer it with several long chain necklaces—or even a diamond necklace for a burst of bling. With the gems over at 1928 Jewelry all is possible! The insanely chic goddess at the accessory mecca would give Coco Chanel a run for her money with all the baubles they have on stock! – La Petite Blog

1928’s been known for vintage style jewelry for over 40 years, in the past year, there’s been a major revival if Art Deco and Art Nouveau style jewelry. But what exactly is Art Deco? Where did it come from? What inspired Art Deco? Well, our friends at La Petite Blog have created the ultimate guide to understanding Art Deco.
The 20th century’s most refined design movement is sleek, smart and eternally stylish- especially now. Fall in love with Everything ART DECO!
1How it started. As a backlash against the lavish, viney ornamentation of art nouveau. Instead of adding decoration for its ow sake, deco (from the early 1900 to the thirties) fused patterns, often geometric, onto functional elements.
2How to spot it. Many items resemble industrial machines, with bold shapes, rounded lines and shiny finishes. Signature colors include black, chocolate, turquoise, peach and cream. Surfaces are either sleek and lacquered or sensual to the touch.
3How to get it. Buy an accent table in chrome or brass. Stock your home bar- better still, a cocktail cart (how cute!) – with gear from the twenties and thirties. Get a mirrored vanity table (on my wish list), and cover it with Lalique perfume bottles.
A shimmering mix of Swarovski crystals, gilded metal and a gold plate can’t hide the industrial inclinations of the Dior Art Bracelet. Christian Dior, 212 931 2950
