Oh my Godfather – Gwennie’s on the cover of the April InStyle and 1928 is inside!  To die!

I LOVE!  Annnnnnnd – the Queen of Vintage has a spread – that’s right Rachel “I dream in Jewelry” (who doesn’t?!) Zoe has a fab four pages.  I am sighing and drooling as I write.  The most amazing thing – you can hop on www.1928.com and STEAL so many look-a-likes from this very article!

Let’s see – there’s the long pearl/Trinity gold cross looking pendant she’s wearing on pg. 138, 1928’s version would be the Antique Black Bow-Tie Necklace, or her diamond and pearl flower ring – the 1928 Antique Pearl and Crystal Flower Stud Earrings are PERFECT and all you crafty types could just pop over to Michael’s and make a ring for yourself and one of your friends in no time!  Viola!

The GINORMOUS hoops Rachel’s rockin’ are certainly a rather large take-off of the 1928 Luxembourg Embellished Olive Green Hoop Earrings!  Can you say Happy St. Patty’s Day to your ears?!

2028 Jewelry Featured in "trend n tips" in the April 2010 InStyle

Now, thumb through to pg. 317 to the “tipsntrends.com” page – middle right – yes dear friends – those two rings are 2028, an exclusive collection available only at Macy’s!  Now, being the arachnophobe I am – I would never DREAM of wearing bugs on my fingers, howevs I simply die for this superfly Dragonfly!  And the locket ring reminds me of my beloved Nana Banana’s locket that she wore crossing the ocean from Wales to this country as a child.  Is it not GORGE?!  I’m running (in my pink Reebok Easytones!) to my local Macy’s.  And never fear ring lovers – if it’s not in stock yet, be patient.  You know how these pubs work.  They release weeks in advance – keep running back, it will be there soon and you will be so pleased that you persevered!

 Ciao for now!  ;)

Sense and Sensibility

It’s all about sensibility here. How do you thrift successfully? Style Symmetry will let you know. How do you dress for an fashion job interview? 39thandbroadway will show you the way (no pantsuits!) reLYME investigates feminine studs, and The Coveted talks to elegant punks. Dramatis Personae keeps it all in (corsets).  There’s the full version of Links á la Mode here in the forums… there’s a lot of great posts there too.

Marc Jacobs Raises Industry Standards

On Monday, Marc Jacobs cut his fashion show list by 1300 guests in order to avoid employee layoffs.  Given the current state of the economy, Jacobs says, “it just seems ostentatious for us to continue doing the same thing.” We couldn’t agree more. Instead of lavishing attention on the already celebrity (or wanna be celebrity), Jacobs is setting a standard and showing that the people who work for you are the key to long term success, they should bear the burden of a weekend economy. If there are other places to a company can safely scale back then it should be done.

Jacobs is acknowledging that’s time to trim the fat and embrace a simpler way of getting things done. Fashion shows and parties are for the people who need to be there, your core influencers and supporters. After all, aren’t some of the most sought after, successful fashion brands built on eliteness & exclusivity? He definitely is setting this standard by limiting show attendees.

Hopefully other designers should follow suit.
