Vanity Fair Showcases New Hollywood Talent with Old Hollywood Glamour

It’s that time of year again! The Vanity Fair Hollywood Issue is hitting newsstands celebrating its 18th anniversary with a very Va-Va-Voom fold out cover. The editorial comes out with a Hollywood issue every year that features some of the hottest actors and actresses of the moment. And this year, the magazine decided to show off some serious girl power as they featured only 11 of Hollywood’s finest “It” girls of 2011 that are sure to keep their “it” factor through 2012 and beyond. The Hollywood edition is actually VF’s March issue, so here’s a little sneak peek to keep you tied over!

Before we get to the glamour girls, let’s talk about yet another retro reference we see here! Last week we blogged on two separate occasions about the comeback of all things vintage from Miu Miu’s cameo accessories, to H&M’s summer lookbook, and even our newest Belle de Jour collection! We’ve seen the modern adaptations of all eras from the 1940’s to the 60’s, but this newest Vanity Fair cover shoot gives us the true vintage Hollywood glamour of the 20’s and 30’s. Draped in pastel satin gowns and spread across an Art Deco set, Hollywood’s leading ladies are transformed into visions of Tinseltown past.

So who were the 11 actresses worthy of such a high honor in the fashion and entertainment industry? On the front of the three page fold-out cover are Jennifer Lawrence, soon to star in the highly anticipated Hunger Games movies, Jessica Chastain, recently nominated for an Oscar for her role in The Help, Mia Wasikowska, who played the title role in Jane Eyre this past year on top of landing the Miu Miu campaign, and newcomer Rooney Mara, who has been a red carpet wonder at every premiere of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Rooney Mara was also nominated for Best Actress, bringing the Oscar nom count to two just on the cover alone! Vanity Fair sure snagged some star power!

But the A-list status doesn’t stop there! The next page features some of the newer ladies to hit the silver screen and make a name for themselves. Younger sister to Mary-Kate and Ashley and one of my personal fashion icons, Elizabeth Olsen joins Adepero Oduye and Shailene Woodley, both of whom have recently made the switch from TV to serious motion pictures that are getting plenty of buzz. By the looks of this cover, you wouldn’t be able to tell they haven’t been Hollywood divas for years!

The spread continues on with Paula Patton, the beauty from the most recent installment of Mission Impossible, Felicity Jones, who stole our hearts in this year’s film Like Crazy, Lily Collins, who has been cast as Snow White in the much anticipated version of the Disney classic Mirror, Mirror, and Brit Marling, who is one of the older cover girls even though the actress is only 29 years young.

With all of this feminine allure and talent packed onto one magazine cover, we’re sure Vanity Fair‘s March issue will be a hot seller! We like that they chose to only feature young women and showcased them in the most elegant and glamorous way possible. The soft curls, the pastel gowns, the strong red pouts- all of it comes together to be subtly sexy, yet not too demure. These powerhouse actresses are here to make their mark on Hollywood and this cover surely proves that point!

Jen’s Journal: Mother’s Day!

Hi Dolls!

Back from a splendid weekend in Vegas; think I even saw Katie Perry! She’s a cutie – that one!

Have you seen the new exclusive MLB collection from PINK at Vickie’s Secret? Of course I couldn’t even look if they didn’t have Yankees but – why even ask – they DO! The cutest little fan gear. They have a tee I must own that says “I only kiss Yankee fans!” So true! And the little MVP Yoga Pants are to die!

While I was gone 1928 had a faboo Mother’s Day sale where you could purchase one of their beautiful crystal frames and you automatically get a pair of matching crystal studs free! How bananas is that?! I have to be quick like a bunny and jump on there to purchase several for my out of town Mommies! It ends tomorrow! Wonder what they’ll be promoting next? Sign up dolls so you can enjoy all the 1928 bennies too! icon winkJen’s Journal: Mothers Day!

I think I’m purchasing the 1928 Antiquities Couture Vintage Couture 44” Gold Deco Necklace for my mom and the Art Deco Revival Eternity Brooch for my grandmother for Mother’s Day – they will love!

What are you all doing this weekend? I’m off to a family member’s 80th birthday! Can you imagine what she has seen in her lifetime? The formula changes in Coca-Cola ALONE! LOL! Speaking of which – Are you Coke or Pepsi fans? I am a die-hard Diet Coke girl and when I’m out and ask very nicely ask for a Diet Coke and am asked (somewhat not-so-nicely back) “Is Pepsi ok?” As my face falls, I want to ask (as my FB friend so aptly put) “Is Monopoly money ok?!” Sigh.

I digress, as I’m prone to do. Mother’s Day is coming next month, so many birthdays, a bridal shower, Memorial Day – oooh yeah – off to the shore…

Ciao for now dolls!

Jen’s Journal: Vintage Prom, The 80′s?

Hi Gals!

Did everyone have a nice Easter?  I did – spent it with the fam, the weather turned out to be beautiful – a tad windy for my skirt but it happens!  Did everyone out here on the left coast feel the quake?!  Wow!  We were at a family home that had a pool and you would have thought there was a wave machine installed!  My goodness!

So – the lovely young lady across from me in my building just got asked to Prom, she is so excited.  It’s her first big dance and she is going with her friends to shop for the perfect dress.  She told me she wanted something “Vintage” so of course I perked up and thought of all the places I could tell her to pop into and all the 1928 collector pieces I could lend her and do you know what she said NEXT?!  “Um, you know – from the ‘80’s!”

After I calmly picked myself off the floor and settled myself back on the chair, I proceeded to explain that Vintage, my darling young first-time Prom attendee is NOT the ‘80’s!  Vintage harkens back to a pure and lovely time.  Where women were WOMEN, where they wore ivory, eggshell, ecru, off-white (yes – these are all DIFFERENT colors).  Where jewelry was both delicate and ginormous.  Intricate and simple.  Architecturally fabulous.  NOT electrified by Neon and WHAM!

I shared some beautiful tear sheets with her of Vintage Chanel, YSL, Armani and Oleg Cassini and then we looked at some beautiful 1928 pieces she could purchase such as the 1928 Boise de Boulogne Etched Rose Earrings with the 1928 Bois de Boulogne Etched Rose Necklace or the 1928 Champagne Essence Topaz & Copper Chandelier Earrings with the Sahara Copper and Topaz Bracelet.  Yummy!

Enjoy the Prom guys and gals – you’re only young ONCE!  Sigh, I’m remembering mine, all four…

Ciao for now!

The twilight saga: new moon

Hi Dolls!  I know you’re going to kill me but I am so not a TwiHard.  I know, I know.  Just not in to pasty faces or cold weather!  Howevs – did you see the “New Moon” DVD sold 4 million copies over the weekend – wow how you LOVE that movie! icon winkJen’s Journal: new moon

And of course 1928 has some appropriately named jewelry for all you fans: the “Bella Rouge Ruby Red Bowtie Necklace” or the beautiful Siam Red Hematite Tone Drop Earrings that are on sale for just $6.00!!!!! You can’t beat that!  WOW – I seem to be on a blood red theme here!  icon winkJen’s Journal: new moon   Of course you MUST get a couple of the Rojo Hematite Siam Square Filigree Stretch Bracelets and the Blaze Gothic Filigree Bracelets – GORGEOUS!

What did everyone do over the weekend (besides purchase THAT DVD!)?  I went to a bridal shower and everyone commented on my pin which (of course!) is from 1928 – their Boutique Brand.  It’s the Vintage Inspired Goth Brooch.  Are you aware, dear readers, that 1928 Jewelry has several different brands?  There’s our beloved, and original, 1928; 2028 – an exclusive collection sold only in Macy’s stores; 1928 Boutique, 1928 Bridal; Antiquities Couture (my personal fave – I have several pieces!) and The Vatican Collection – hand selected pieces from the Vatican Library – can you imagine?!  Simply exquisite.

Make sure you hop – quick like a bunny – (enough Easter phrases for you?!) and check out all the brands for yourself, you’ll fall in love for the first time, or perhaps you’ll see a brand that’s been here your whole life just waiting for you to rediscover, and maybe explore a whole new you!

 Ciao for now girls!
